Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has turned down the offer of a new contract from his Italian Serie A team. The Manchester United target handed Lazio a big blow by rejecting a new contract extension as reported by Italian publication LazioNews24.

Manchester United target Milinkovic-Savic has been seriously linked with a move away from Lazio this summer. Apart from Manchester United, the Serbian international star has been reported as a target for fellow Premier League teams Arsenal and Newcastle United. Milinkovic-Savic doesn’t want to stay at Lazio after turning down the offer of a one-year contract extension on top of the two years left on his current deal with the capital club. The Serbian has a Lazio contract that does not expire until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Lazio attempted to hand Milinkovic-Savic a new deal at the club to better evaluate the offers for him, but the player is disinterested in continuing his career at the club. The midfielder wants a new challenge after seven years at the Italian Serie A outfit.

Manchester United have been seriously linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic since last summer, but it remains to be seen if they would make a move for him with new manager Erik Ten Hag in charge these days. Ten Hag is keen to rebuild Manchester United starting from the midfield department and the player could be an option. Dutchman Frenkie De Jong has been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams as well as Ten Hag could reunite with the Barcelona midfielder in England. They worked together at Ajax Amsterdam.

€70m-rated player Sergej Milinkovic-Savic also has interest from Premier League teams Arsenal and Newcastle United, but he’s not prepared to accept downward proposals as stated by the report from the stables of Italian publication Corrieredello Sport.
